In every way, Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure lives up to its fun-filled promise and outperforms all expectations.

Ordinarily, when films are adapted into a video game, the result is an all-too-often clunky game that doesn't compare to the brilliance of the original film. Not so with Kinect Rush.

The subtitle says it all: A Disney Pixar Adventure. The game is precisely that - an adventure inspired by five of the greatest films from two of the best animation studios in the industry.

Developed by Asobo Studios, who won the Annie Award for Best Animated Video Game in 2008 (for Ratatouille), Kinect Rush brings together the imaginative worlds of Toy Story, Cars, Ratatouille, Up, and (my personal favourite) The Incredibles. You simply could not ask for more animated fun!

And unlike most games, particularly most games for the Kinect, this Disney Pixar adventure aims to appeal to audiences of all ages, and it has succeeded beyond what I thought it might before playing it. The game uses the KinectScan to uniquely embed you into the game, rendering the colours of your clothes in real-life onto your character as you play - this is every bit as impressive as it sounds, and doesn't quickly lose its novelty.

One of the most important things I wanted from this game was fidelity to the original source material, and Asobo have done a fantastic job of living up to the wonderful worlds created by the films upon which the game is based, allowing us to dive into the worlds of superheroes, talking cars, talking toys, talking rats, and a grumpy yet soft-hearted old man!

The Disney and Pixar films are so good because they appeal to young and old, children and their parents, and the exact same thing can be said of Kinect Rush. It's a fast-paced game that gives plenty of action, and so many hours of fun for all the family - allowing you, as a parent, to get your full money's worth.

Taking advantage of the Kinect's sensors, Kinect Rush requires everything from you - you have to put your whole body into playing the game, letting you and your children to really immerse yourselves in the game and enjoy it. In Cars, you steer an imaginary steering wheel and tilt your body in real-life to lean the car up onto two wheels as you race around corners. In Ratatouille, you're met with a platform game that sees you scurrying around the city of Paris as (of course!) a tiny little rat, and there are some brilliant opportunities here for co-operative gaming, alongside either the game or another player.

Neither I nor my children have a bad word to say about the game, and I'm sure you and your family won't either. It's an impressive thing that Asobo have created with Kinect Rush. It's not often I find a game really designed for both parents and children, so this is a truly great treasure-trove find my books. We've not had the game for long but already we're hooked, and I envisage many more hours of gameplay in the weeks to come!

If you're a fan of any of the five brilliant Disney and Pixar films that the game incorporates, this is something you have to seek out. It uses the Kinect incredibly well and leaves you laughing and simply enjoying the game, putting every ounce of yourself into these marvellous and expansive worlds, and it won't be long before you won't want to leave them.
