An extraordinary 'Theme Park' has been seen orbiting around Sonics' home planet and rumours are rife about a mysterious Alien Race.
Sonic finds he must once again battle the evil Dr Eggman (once known as Dr Robotnik as I recall) to free this mysterious colourful alien race the 'Wisps' from his evil clutches. As Sonic reaches the alien planet, he must race through mesmerising Theme Park-esque worlds to edge his way nearer to defeating his evil foe. Along the way, he discovers that he can gain special powers from absorbing the colourful energies that the aliens hold, helping the Wisps escape!
