The Yakuza series has never taken off particularly in the West. A huge hit in Japan, perhaps this next-generation offering will finally open the title up to the larger audience it deserves.
The game is truly sprawling.
There has been quite some furore over the fact that some of the original game content was cut from the U.S and PAL versions during the translation process. Whilst this is irritating, and noticeable, the game still boasts hours and hours of gameplay.
I have been playing solidly for weeks and still have much left to complete!
The inclusion of the Japanese DLC for free really tops of this package - which also comes with a CD soundtrack bundled in.
This is a definite successor to SEGA's earlier masterpiece Shenmue - being similar gameplay and atmosphere - but for the current generation.
It might take some time to get into its stride - but once it does, you will be hooked.
