    ****

This is, by far the best Total War game yet. Many of the problems of previous Total War games have been resolved ad the AI has been vastly improved (however it still has its faults).
The campaign and sheer number and size of clans to choose from is mind-boggling - each and everyone having its own, unique traits and abilities. This means that although you are playing the same game you can play several entirely different campaigns in one game. The historical battles are a great addition (with many of them getting the better of me) and provide a much better insight and backdrop to medieval Japan.
The Avatar Conquest and sheer variety of army compositions for online matches make it a very involving game. The clan system is also great however has been somewhat exploited by a few "mega clans" enabling clans to fight for different regions in short - league-like structures.
At the time of writing The Iko Ikki expansion pack has been released; introducing another campaign and historic battle into the mix, whilst online it enables further armour for personalisation of your avatar as well as providing new, unique units. A FANTASTIC game 5/5
