Fallout: New Vegas is a single-player action RPG created by Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda. Considered to be the sequel to the game of the year that was Fallout 3, many gamers waited anxiously to see how this game would fair compared to its predecessor.

Being an action RPG like Fallout 3, New Vegas is story-intensive right from the off. Without giving away much of the game, I can say that you play as a courier in the post apocalyptic Mojave Wasteland. You get shot and your package gets taken from you by a man in a suit. Luckily, you survive and set out to find the man that tried to kill you.
The game has a very large number of quests to complete for the main story, but also a lot of side-quests that do not advance the plot, but will give you experience and items to keep. The storyline is quite slow to start off, but does have multiple paths that you can choose to take, each having a dramatic effect on the Wasteland and ending plot.

While the story serves its purpose well, the gameplay is what really catches the player's attention in a game like New Vegas (NV). Being an action-based RPG, NV has a massive environment to explore, enemies to kill, experience to earn, weapons to collect and much more! The Obsidian team have taken everything that was great about Fallout 3, such as the VATs mechanic (a mode that allows you to stop time and aim at specific body parts) and inventory systems, and has added item crafting and a ton of new locations and weapons to find. Needless to say, this game is just as fun as Fallout 3, but adds a load of new and exciting features that make it feel like a fresh experience for the player.

Graphics-wise, NV uses the same engine that was present in both Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. While the graphics have been improved since both of these games, there are noticeable side-effects to using such an old engine for this game. The environments still look amazing, but the odd texture here and there does dull the overall look of the game. The character's faces have certainly been improved from previous iterations as they now no longer look so stiff when speaking, and feel a bit more 'real' when interacting with them.

Having played Fallout 3 and now this game, I feel as though Obsidian and Bethesda have improved enough to warrant getting this game. With so much to explore and do, Fallout: New Vegas is a perfectly good RPG that will soak up a good 60+hrs of your free time! Get this game now!
