Resistance 2

Join hero Nathan Hale and his special sentinel task force in a battle to the death against Chimera aliens. There's a great weapons arsenal to raid plus single player, or 60 player competitive modes. But this game comes into its own in an eight player co-op mode to die for.

This game has been out for a while as for that this means price has dropped on this entertaining game, this is a sequel to the highly-critical Resistance fall of man released at the launch of ps3. While that game had some flaws it had many pros to it, to make it a recommendable game even to this day as its cheap. So when Resistance 2 was in the making the development team must of thought bigger is better and thats what they did and they achieved in what they were doing from bigger enemies to bigger set-pieces to bigger everything. still it does have some flaws.

Now the plot in this game is rather dissapointing, fans of the last game might be saddened to hear the black and white story cutscenes are replaced with pre-rendered cutscenes i personally wasn't a fan of the last game's cutscenes but some were dissapointed in this move. The actual plot is fair nothing big or engaging in terms of twists untill the very end basically you play as a soldier called Hale he got infected and has only 24 hours to live (not very original)plus the Chimera have infected the rest of europe and is now planning the attack of the U.S.A it has abit more depth to it but thats the simple plot with out giving anything away.

The gameplay is a typical first-person shooter like most games these days however you should not compare this game to other FPS titles out there as while there is some similar features the premise of this game and execution of it is different. You have the standard movement, sprinting short distances, iron sights etc. But if you know this company made the rachet and clank and they have some real original ideas in terms of weapons and thats what they have done here. many weapons from the first game return here, typical assualt rifle, sniper, rocket launcher, shotgun, these weapons are only the standard arsenal of gear as then there is the chimera weaponry, one fires like an assualt rifle but much more fast pace/deceased accuracy but what makes this unique is pressing the secondary fire button (thats right there are secondary fire shots on all weapons including pistol) the bullseye fires a buller which then is the target for all the other bullets you fire so if you fire secodary bullet at chimera then fire normally all the fire power goes to the chimera therefore killing him with no hassle aiming and thats only one weapon. auger's ammunition can go through walls and shielding depletes after time. pistol has a detonation switch so all bullets fired close ranged can explode. The weapons on this game are such fun to use and is entertaining.

Now the single player campaign is at a decent length pretty much the norm in this day and age in video games. But boy you can witness some of the most epic set-pieces in video game history you fight a 200 foot monster destroying the city, now thats fun only problem to this is that this occurs in the middle of the game therefore past that it never really meets upto that standard again even the final battle which is fun but never really captures the mood like the moster therefore it feels like a really dissapoiting climax. but there is enough variety in the enemies as there are standard chimera more powerful ones, bigger sub-bosses, grim, flying sentinals and a few more none really stand out except for bosses but its still acceptable. Levels however sometimes drag and difficult spikes in a few areas are very frustrating and this was only of normal difficulty.

Now the online features 60 player online the most featured on any console and can compete with PC games, now thats an achievement and takes me back to the bigger everything comment, and surprisingly for the amount of players its strangely organised and chaotic fun. however it can get abit random and frustrating when the teams are one-sided. but overall its fun it also has an experience point system to keep up interest and unlocks. this will keep you coming back for more and with a strong and big community it shouldn't die out soon. Did we mention co-op? the bigger comment applies here aswell sadly there is no offline co-op like the first game but the online can feature upto 8 players now thats big. but be warned to gets so choatic is can sometimes be random. its amazing that the framerate is so steady. experience system is also here but its seperate to the competitive mode. The visuals are overall pretty good, some bland textures on some enviroments even more so online. but the vistas and some of the enviroments and bosses in single player campaign is amazing.

Overall this is an enjoyable game packed with loads of content that is easily recommendable to anyone who owns a PS3, while its not a masterpiece it has many features and good traditional shooting gameplay to please mostly anyone. 9/10

In my opinion Resistance 2 has an excellent single player mode, it took me 6h to finish it but after finishing you can add different effect to the game if you were interested in going through Nathan Hale's story again. For the multiplayer the 60 online is chaotic for time to time and the big down side for me is you could only have 5 people in one squad which means, that if you are playing with 7 of your friends 2 are going to be left out and, you would have to press a left analogue tick (default) so they can hear you. As for the modes it features a great variety of games but, you get the feeling that you keep on playing on the same maps, but the new map pack should improve that. The CO-OP online has separate missions then Campaign and its up to 8 players, with unique classes to help you finish the hardest objectives.

    My final score is 9.5

This is a must buy on PS3 some fans of the resistance fall of man might be disappointed for the gamesplay as it changed a lot.

HOPE this review will help you make a choice about this game.
