Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

It's that age old question, are you Pro Evo or FIFA? This month the football sim big boys take to the pitch with their latest offerings. But once again Pro Evo swiftly tackles Fifa and stuffs one right in the back of the net for gameplay. And although Fifa can bend it like Beckham on sound and commentary, Pro Evo's gameplay cannot be beaten. PES 1, FIFA 0.

First of all the graphics on PES are very realistic compared to Fifa 09. The player faces and kits (the ones which are licensed) look very professional and well done. Now to the licenses, the only two licensed teams in the premiership are Man Utd and Liverpool, which is a downside but there is a really in depth edit mode. There are a few other leagues licensed like league 1 in France, but that isn't one of the main leagues. There are the usual types of game modes like master league, cup and league etc but this year there's a fully licensed champions league mode which works very well. Also, to compete with Fifa's 'be a pro', PES now has a mode called 'become a legend', which is ok for now but definitely needs work. Despite this, the game can be very fun with 3 mates over Xbox live. Most 1 v 1 Xbox live matches still suffer from lag but it's been improved for PES 2008.

The overall gameplay is still there, the passing and dribbling are very realistic and crisp, but the shooting is a bit off. This is certainly better than 2008 but not better than PES 6, I would give this a 7/10 overall and it is definitely worth picking up for around £25/20.

I was once a very enthusiastic PES lover but once the series went downhill and fifa became better there was no real point going back. But I previously being a PES fan I thought lets find out how good PES 2009 is or on the other how bad it is. And guess what happened, i was once again thoroughly disappointed and also I can't believe that konami has not got right to many teams, which makes me very upset.

Before hand PES was designed to be more realistic than fifa, which I used to believe but now its n- the pace is out of whack, the animations are clunky, the graphics are horrible and it doesn't flow as well as fifa, but previously it used to. I am absolutely disappointed, And one of the best games which I loved on the Playstation 2 is going down and that's unfortunate for such a good series. If konami are to move back to the top spot they would have to pull there finger out of there backside and do something very drastic.

Sorry if I have disappointed anyone in any way, but believe me on this one and if you haven't yet bought the game take my advice and don't buy it.

Well the anticipation of this game was massive and I got mine yesterday at work - couldn't wait to get home. I should mention that I have FIFA 09 and have really enjoyed playing this game thus far. I have been a fan of Pro Evo (Including last year) for as long as I can remember so I was itching to play this. HOW I WAS LET DOWN. I don't even like the standard view and the graphics are not just a little worse than FIFA there alot worse. I also don't think the controls (4 way instead of full analogue) are very good. I can't put my finger on it but this game just doesn't click. I'm loving FIFA 09 right now and am actually tempted to sell my copy of Pro Evo already. I always want to give games a chance but I think I already know I prefer FIFA which in all honesty is not something I thought I would ever say. I think this has YET AGAIN been rushed to try and compete with it's rival but they haven't even got the teams up to date from the latest transfer window. Collocini isn't at Newcastle to name but a few. What I also find strange is that last year they used the proper Newcastle strip so clearly had the rights to this yet this year they're back to being Tyneside with a rubbish horizontal strip much like other teams. I think with the capability of the PS3 this game should have had graphics to compare to FIFA and also gameplay to compare with Pro Evo of old but sadly it delivers on neither. In a word - gutted.
